Context

AIDERS is an AI-assisted emergency-response platform developed since 2019 by the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence at the University of Cyprus, combining drone imagery, sensor data and mapping for a shared operational picture during disasters.

Activities

During wildfires near Malia in the Limassol district on 23 July 2025, Cyprus's Fire Service, Forestry Department, Civil Defence and Police used AIDERS to monitor inaccessible terrain with drones, feeding live data to a central Command and Control Centre.

Results

The fires burned over 100 km2, destroyed 191 homes across 15 villages and killed two people; officials credit AIDERS with improving fire-front tracking, evacuation planning and inter-agency coordination.

Conclusions

No quantified detection or coordination-time benchmark is published, and AIDERS is described as an application-specific algorithm platform rather than a named deep-learning model.
