Brazil's electoral court runs a public Sistema de Alerta de Desinformação Eleitoral with CIEDDE, a direct channel to platforms. Reports fell from 18,487 (2022) to 2,606 (2026) over the same Aug–Oct window, though causation is unproven.

Description
Brazil's Superior Electoral Court (TSE) created the Centro Integrado de Enfrentamento à Desinformação e Defesa da Democracia (CIEDDE) and the Sistema de Alerta de Desinformação Eleitoral. Citizens can report false or seriously decontextualised content about the electoral process, and CIEDDE keeps direct channels to platforms so notified content can be removed faster; the stated aim is to shorten the time a false story stays online. TSE Resolution 23.732/2024 places duties on platforms: use their own AI tools to identify and remove deepfakes and manipulated audio/video, label AI-generated content, dismantle coordinated bot networks and fake accounts, and remove violating content swiftly once notified or self-identified. The state does not build its own detection AI; it sets duties and a reporting channel. Reported results: between 1 August and 3 October, the system recorded 18,487 reports in 2022 and 2,606 in 2026, an ~86% fall. The TSE president attributed this to cooperation with platforms but warned against complacency. Caveats: a fall in citizen reports is not a direct measure of less disinformation, and no independent evaluation was found; effects on speech and the burden on platforms are contested.
