UNICEF Albania and the Ministry of Education and Sport piloted Eduten, a Finnish AI-adaptive maths platform, in 30 primary schools across Tirana, Durrës and Kamëz, reaching nearly 2,000 Grade 3-4 pupils with personalised practice and real-time teacher dashboards.
In spring 2026, UNICEF Albania and the Ministry of Education and Sport introduced EDUTEN, an AI-adaptive mathematics platform originally built on University of Turku pedagogy in Finland, into 30 primary schools across Tirana, Durrës and Kamëz.
The platform tailors practice problems to each pupil in real time and gives teachers live dashboards of individual and class progress, reflecting UNICEF Albania's stated view that AI integration depends on equipping educators with the knowledge and confidence to use it effectively and responsibly in the classroom.
Rollout was preceded by hands-on teacher training, reaching close to 2,000 Grade 3 and 4 students in its first phase. Education Minister Mirela Kumbaro Furxhi and the EU Delegation's Head of Cooperation, Ritva Heikkinen, visited one of the participating "smart labs" to observe the pilot directly.
No Albania-specific pre/post learning results have been published yet — this is an early-stage pilot, and the sources available describe reach, teacher preparation and ministerial engagement rather than measured attainment gains.
Eduten has published stronger quantified evidence from other national deployments, such as a remedial-maths pilot in Lao PDR reporting double-digit percentage-point gains in maths proficiency and arithmetic fluency for the treatment group, but those results are specific to that country and should not be assumed to transfer automatically to Albania without local evaluation.
