Description

Since around 2018–2019, Georgia's Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport built the "New School Model" digital platform on Microsoft 365/Teams, integrating the national Education Management Information System (EMIS) for school administration, alongside a Teams-embedded chatbot (a "digital employee") that answers frequently asked questions from the school community.

According to the Ministry, the chatbot has responded to questions from 1,177 users since its launch. The broader Teams/EMIS platform saw daily active users grow from 750 to nearly 300,000 within three months during the COVID-19 shift to remote learning (December 2020), with 330,000 unique virtual classes conducted and a Minecraft Education pilot across 150 schools.

The chatbot itself is a modest FAQ-style assistant with a comparatively small user count relative to the platform's overall scale, and predates modern generative AI (rule/menu-based rather than generative). The 300,000 daily-user figure describes the wider Teams/EMIS platform used for remote classes, not the chatbot specifically, and Georgia's own account is government- and vendor-sourced rather than independently audited.
