Context

Qatar's national e-government portal Hukoomi, run by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), integrated Microsoft Azure OpenAI GPT capabilities in February 2023 to power an intelligent search function, a conversational virtual assistant, and a 'Life Moments' interface grouping government services by events such as births, marriages, business registration and retirement. As of 2024, Hukoomi provided access to over 400 active e-services from across Qatari government entities, as part of the wider Qatar Digital Government Strategy targeting 1,000+ services and 90% digitisation of roughly 1,500 government services by 2030. The MCIT GovAI programme also supports agency-specific AI tools, such as an AI Tourist Companion for Qatar Tourism.
