Governments are deploying AI faster than they evaluate it: 51 new practices in 30 days, only 2 on strong evidence

23 Aug. 2026

In the 30 days to 17 August, 51 AI-in-public-services practices were evaluated and published on Evidoria, from 44 countries — bringing the topic to 209 practices across 112 countries. Citizen-facing assistants dominate the new wave (GOV.UK Chat, Rwanda's IremboGov, Bogotá's Chatico, Costa Rica's judicial ChatbotPJ), alongside central-bank nowcasting models in the Netherlands and Poland. The evaluation evidence has not kept pace: only 2 of the 51 rest on strong study designs; most are descriptive or observational accounts of deployments.
