Punjab launched 25 AI-enabled Career Guidance Labs in government schools in December 2025, giving students from class 6 an AI aptitude assessment plus one-to-one counsellor sessions with parents — India's first such state-run programme, still unevaluated.
On 21 December 2025, the Government of Punjab inaugurated 25 AI-enabled Career Guidance Labs across government and Punjab School Education Board (PSEB)-affiliated schools, delivered in partnership with ed-tech provider Beyond Mentor and offered free to students. Coverage from The Tribune and Careers360 describes it as India's first state-run programme of this kind.
The labs aim to replace generic careers advice with earlier, data-informed guidance for students from class 6 onward, combining an AI-based aptitude assessment with individualised professional counselling involving parents.
Students complete an AI-based aptitude and interest assessment on the platform; the system generates an individualised report of potential academic and vocational pathways; a professional counsellor then holds a one-to-one session with the student and parents to translate the report into an action plan.
This is a freshly launched, 25-school pilot with no published outcome data at the time of writing. Officials state it will be 'closely monitored for impact, student outcomes, and operational efficacy' before any phased state-wide expansion is considered, so the programme is a concrete, well-sourced early-stage administrative-guidance model rather than a proven-impact case.
