DeAfrica's 'Your Journey in the AI Economy' Course Reaches Comorian Learners in a 45-Country Pan-African Cohort

Distance Education for Africa (DeAfrica) ran a seven-week distance course, 'Your Journey in the AI Economy, Skills for Work, Learning, and Life,' between 24 February and 7 April 2026, bringing together 1,068 participants from 45 African countries in a shared digital learning space.

Unlike tool-mastery courses, the curriculum emphasises judgment and decision-making, framing AI as a 'thinking partner' that supports professionals -- including government librarians, humanitarian analysts, teachers, artists and district agriculture directors -- rather than a technology that replaces them.

Participation ranged from Botswana, which alone supplied 408 learners (nearly 40% of the cohort), Kenya (255 participants) and Mauritius (63 participants), down to learners from fragile or small settings such as South Sudan and the Comoros, some of whom represented their entire country alone in the virtual sessions.

Reporting on the course, by both DeAfrica and the independent Pan African Visions outlet, documents individual participant testimonies -- such as a Kenyan educator launching peer support circles and a South Sudanese analyst applying AI to conflict early-warning work -- but no aggregate test scores, completion rates or follow-up outcome data for Comorian or other participants are published, so the course's measured learning impact is not yet established.
