Uganda's Otic Foundation, endorsed by the Ministry of ICT & National Guidance, has trained over 715 professionals in Power BI, Python and generative-AI prompting at Kampala's National ICT Innovation Hub through its "AI in Every City" campaign with the Data Scientists Network.
Otic Foundation, a Ugandan NGO founded by Nesta Paul Katende, runs free and low-cost AI-literacy training out of the government's National ICT Innovation Hub in Nakawa, Kampala, under formal endorsement from Uganda's Ministry of ICT and National Guidance.
Programmes including the "AI in Every City" campaign, run jointly with the Data Scientists Network (DSN), train participants in Microsoft Power BI for data visualisation, Python for machine learning, and prompt engineering for generative-AI tools such as ChatGPT. The Foundation has since diversified its institutional partnerships, delivering sector-specific AI training to Roofings Group, Rotary and Rotaract clubs, Uganda's Ministry of Defence, and the Uganda Communications Commission.
As of publication on 31 July 2024, the Foundation's programmes had attracted more than 715 participants from a range of professional backgrounds.
Reported figures are attendance counts rather than measured skill gains or employment outcomes. The Foundation's own long-term target — one million Ugandans trained by 2030 — is a stated ambition, not yet demonstrated progress; verified attendance (over 715) remains a small fraction of that goal.
