Digital Access For All aims to deliver a scalable programme over three years addressing the needs of the estimated one million families of school-aged children in the UK who lack adequate access to a computer, the internet, and the skills to use them. Digital exclusion is described as contributing to poorer health outcomes, lower life expectancy, increased loneliness and social isolation, and less access to jobs and education.
The vision of the Taskforce is to ensure that all children and young people in the UK have equal access to digital and the benefits it provides.
The programme has two current focuses: supporting a range of actors from individual schools and families to national and government initiatives, including distributing refurbished devices to families of secondary school-aged children; and addressing the gap left by the Department for Education's (DfE) pledge of device support to 200,000 young people, which the programme describes as insufficient given the many hundreds of thousands of young people still without access, some of whom are disengaged from learning for other reasons.
