BE23Families with children living in poverty in Ghent face a higher risk of digital and social exclusion, experiencing access problems and a lack of e-skills.
Reduce the digital divide for digitally excluded families living in poverty by providing a full support package to help them function within the knowledge society.
Families received a free refurbished computer, 1.5 years of internet connection, home installation, a 'discover the pc/internet' training package, multichannel follow-up, and technical assistance, delivered by Digipolis (Digitaal.Talent@Ghent) with the City of Ghent, OCMW Ghent, Oikonde vzw, VUB, CBE Leerpunt and Telenet Foundation.
An independent pilot evaluation by IBBT-SMIT/VUB researcher Ilse Mariën found participating families gained the time and space to discover the value of computers and the internet, with reported benefits in organisation, social contacts, information access and social participation. Self-reported reach: 400 people, matching a target of 400.
