Context
Under the Digital Inclusion for Women's Economic Empowerment (D4WEE) initiative, UN Women partnered with the Orange Foundation and the National Peace Hut Women of Liberia to establish Women's Digital Centers at the Totota and Gboinyee Tarr Town Peace Huts in Bong County, Liberia — traditional women-led structures historically used for community peacebuilding.
Objectives
The programme aims to build digital and financial literacy skills among rural women inside an existing, trusted community institution, and to convert those skills into income through mobile-money agent work and small-scale 'technopreneurship'.
Results
At the Totota center, 45 young women graduated from a six-month digital literacy course in April 2023, learning basic computer operation and use of the Orange Money mobile-money platform, many having never operated a computer before. This built on 2022 trainings, after which more than 70 women gained employment with Orange as mobile-money agents and over 700 women were using and managing mobile-money accounts.
Conclusions
No independent econometric evaluation of income impact has been published; the reported figures are self-reported by the implementing partners.
