Three 14–15-year-olds in Córdoba, Argentina built FlameFighters, an AI-assisted wildfire-alert app, through Technovation Girls. The app is now used by real Córdoba firefighters, has ~2,600 users, and won a 2024 global Social Impact award.
FlameFighters is an AI-assisted wildfire-alert app built by ‘FlameHearts,’ a three-member team of 14- and 15-year-old girls (Chiara C., Sofía L. and Greta B.) from Córdoba, Argentina, through the Technovation Girls programme delivered locally by the volunteer-run Club de Chicas Programadoras. The team was prompted by the more than 40,000 hectares burned by wildfires in Córdoba province in 2023.
The app combines satellite fire data with AI-processed local weather data to flag nearby fire hotspots and lets residents alert police, firefighters and emergency services directly from a map interface. According to Argentine and Technovation reporting, the app has since been adopted operationally by Córdoba firefighters and reached roughly 2,600 users, and the team won the Social Impact award (Junior Division) among 15 global finalist teams at Technovation's 2024 World Summit hosted with NVIDIA.
As a single youth-built application rather than an institutional programme, the practice illustrates what a girls-only technology education pathway can produce, but it has no independent, controlled evaluation of learning outcomes or of the app's real-world alert accuracy.
