Technovation Girls x Yandex AI Hackathon — Fergana, Uzbekistan

On 9 November 2024, Technovation Girls Uzbekistan — described in local media as the country's largest STEM programme for girls — partnered with Yandex Uzbekistan to run a one-day AI hackathon in Fergana. 83 participants aged 14-25, organised into 18 teams, built mobile-app or project prototypes using artificial intelligence, guided by masterclasses on generating social ideas, pitching, and using AI tools to speed up app development.
Yandex employees served as mentors and presented the company's education and social-impact work in Uzbekistan; all participants received certificates and six winning teams received prizes. Local reporting (Tech4Impact) shows the specific Fergana event was open to ‘girls and boys aged 15-25,’ broadening the umbrella girls-focused programme's gender mix for this event, even though Technovation Girls Uzbekistan's season-long programme centres on girls.
The same Technovation Girls x Yandex hackathon format was repeated in Nukus later the same month, indicating a repeatable model, but no follow-up evaluation of participants' skills or outcomes has been published beyond the single-day event reporting.
