A Google.org-funded, Asia Foundation-led programme trained underemployed youth, indigenous-community members and persons with disabilities in digital and e-commerce skills across Brunei's four districts, reportedly exceeding its 2,500-person target.
Brunei-specific rollout (mid-2020 to mid-2021) of the regional Go Digital ASEAN initiative, funded by a US$3.3m Google.org grant and implemented by The Asia Foundation, delivered locally by Big BWN Project with YEAB, Brunei's Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Education's STEP Centre, AITI and BruCERT.
Train underemployed youth, marginalised/indigenous-community members and persons with disabilities in digital literacy, digital marketing and e-commerce skills across all four Brunei districts.
Training targeted 2,000 unemployed/underemployed youth, 450 people from marginalised or indigenous communities, and 50 persons with disabilities, alongside a parallel MSME digitalisation track for 1,500 businesses run by YEAB; design informed by a baseline study on MSME digital-skills gaps.
Big BWN reported the 2,500-person training target was exceeded, though no audited final participant count was published. The regional Go Digital ASEAN programme (across 10 ASEAN states) was later reported by The Asia Foundation to have reached more than 215,000 small businesses overall — a regional, not Brunei-specific, figure.
