Context

High Touch High Tech (HTHT) is a personalised-learning model combining teacher-led instruction ('High Touch') with an AI-adaptive learning platform ('High Tech'). In Cambodia it is implemented by the NGO Teach For Cambodia together with the Learning Generation Initiative (LGI, housed at the US-based Education Development Center), using the Maths Pathway platform (an Australian social enterprise since rebranded Reflective), which diagnoses each student's mathematics level, serves matched adaptive content and assessments, and gives teachers real-time dashboards.

Activities

The programme began as a roughly three-month, ~523-student pilot in November 2022 and scaled into a funded 2024-2025 school-year deployment across 9 government secondary schools in Phnom Penh and Kandal Province (one funder cites 10 schools), reaching 2,252 grade 7-8 students taught by 13 teachers. Results

LGI reports that participating students' maths scores rose from 35% to 44% over eight months of the pilot — equivalent, in the organisation's framing, to roughly eight additional months of learning and a doubling of expected annual progress.

Conclusions

This figure is self-reported by the implementing NGO from its own monitoring data, not yet a published independent evaluation; LGI's own March 2025 materials stated a formal third-party impact evaluation for the Cambodia and Philippines pilots was due at the end of 2025 and, as of this review, has not been published. Cambodia's broader ed-tech infrastructure constraints also mean the pilot operates in comparatively well-resourced Phnom Penh/Kandal schools rather than being representative of rural Cambodia.
