inDigiMOB — Indigenous Digital Mentors for Remote Communities

inDigiMOB launched in April 2016 as a pilot in Arlparra and four Alice Springs town camps, coordinated by the Indigenous Remote Communications Association (now First Nations Media Australia) and funded by Telstra, training local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members as peer 'Digital Mentors'.

Since 2016 inDigiMOB has reached over 14,000 participants (including 4,000+ in remote NT, SA and WA) and employed 169 Indigenous Digital Mentors (Telstra), expanding beyond its original 13 Northern Territory communities into South Australia and Western Australia.

RMIT's Australian Digital Inclusion Index continues to find First Nations Australians in remote and very remote communities roughly twice as likely to be digitally excluded as the wider population, even as it recorded an 8.7-point improvement in digital ability scores for very remote communities between 2023 and 2025 — evidence the gap is narrowing but far from closed.
