Context

The Isle of Man Government launched a National AI Office (NAIO) on 20 January 2026 with £1 million of government investment, housed within Digital Isle of Man, an executive agency of the Department for Enterprise. It builds on the preceding Activate AI programme, which delivered over 4,100 AI awareness and training sessions and supported 28 pilot projects across key sectors.

Objectives

NAIO's six year-one deliverables include a national AI strategy (due end of 2026), an AI literacy programme, adoption initiatives for productivity and competitiveness, guidance for safe and ethical AI deployment, AI-enabled public-service improvements, and workforce reskilling. The office formalised a Memorandum of Understanding with AI Singapore to import a tested national coordination model, and set a five-year target of £50 million in savings from digitising government services.

Results

The predecessor Activate AI programme is credited with generating an estimated £1.9 million in productivity gains through trials and roughly £2 million in overall productivity savings in 2025.

Conclusions

Reported figures come from government and programme communications rather than an independent evaluation, and the office's five-year savings target and national strategy remain aspirational as of launch; the £1 million budget, deliverables and prior pilot results were corroborated by independent trade press.

Implementation

Indicative cost
Low (< €50k) — £1 million government investment at launch, following prior Activate AI programme spend (not separately disclosed); five-year target of £50 million in savings.
Time to results
Medium (1–3 years) — Predecessor Activate AI programme ran 2024 to January 2026; NAIO launched January 2026 with a national AI strategy due end of 2026 and a five-year savings target.
Staffing & skills
Digital Isle of Man (Department for Enterprise) NAIO staff, AI Singapore (Memorandum of Understanding partner for the coordination model)
