Latvia's newly created AI Centre ran the country's first AI regulatory sandbox call: 10 applications, 3 projects selected, free access to expert guidance and state data, GDPR-supervised, backed by a €370,000 state allocation.
LV00Latvia's AI Centre Law was adopted 6 March 2025, with Cabinet Regulation No. 12 (13 January 2026) setting operating rules for a national AI regulatory sandbox.
The newly created Mākslīgā intelekta centrs foundation, overseen by the Digital Development Agency, ran the country's first sandbox call from 27 February to 27 March 2026, offering free access to expert guidance, state data and real-world pilot testing, with GDPR compliance supervised by the Data State Inspectorate.
The Centre received 10 applications and selected 3 projects (MyWisy Cognitive Twin, Diabēta Asistents, and a Process-as-Code platform) for the first cohort.
As of August 2026 the selected projects have only just begun; no outcome or exit-report data exists yet, and this entry should be revisited once the first cohort concludes.
