Context

During the pandemic, Equatorial Guinea relied on a TV/radio distance-learning programme; once schools reopened, the Ministry of Education, UNICEF and Fundacion IDENTIC sought a more durable digital successor and on 25 June 2024 launched the national Learning Passport platform, built on UNICEF and Microsoft's global Learning Passport technology and loaded with content adapted to the national syllabus.

Objectives

The pilot targeted equitable access: offline functionality for areas with limited connectivity and balanced coverage of the country's mainland and island regions.

Activities

The rollout began with a pilot of 16 schools (eight in Malabo and eight in Bata), preceded by teacher-training sessions covering both the continental and insular regions of the country.

Conclusions

As a newly launched pilot, no independent evaluation of student learning outcomes is yet available; the documented strength so far is its equitable design rather than demonstrated learning gains.
