Equatorial Guinea's Ministry of Education, UNICEF and Fundación IDENTIC launched the Microsoft-built Learning Passport platform in June 2024, piloting offline-capable curriculum content in 8 schools each in Malabo and Bata as a successor to COVID-era distance learning.
During the pandemic, Equatorial Guinea relied on the television and radio programme "La Escuela en mi Casa" for distance learning; once schools reopened, the country sought a more durable digital successor.
On 25 June 2024, the Ministry of Education, UNICEF Equatorial Guinea and the Fundación IDENTIC launched the national Learning Passport — an online, offline and mobile-accessible learning platform built on UNICEF and Microsoft's global Learning Passport technology, loaded with curriculum content adapted to the national syllabus. The rollout began with a pilot of 16 schools (eight in Malabo and eight in Bata), preceded by teacher-training sessions covering both the continental and insular regions of the country.
As a newly launched pilot, no independent evaluation of student outcomes is yet available; its main documented strength is deliberately equitable design — offline functionality for areas with limited connectivity and balanced coverage of the country's mainland and island regions — rather than demonstrated learning gains.
