UNDP and Intel ran a three-day workshop and six expert-led co-design sessions with 20 University of Liberia faculty to build the country's first Master of AI programme, sealed by a new Intel–UL licensing agreement, under the same March 2025 MoU that also trained Liberian governme
Under a March 2025 Memorandum of Understanding between UNDP and Intel Corporation — the same partnership that launched the Digital Ambassadors programme in Lesotho — UNDP Liberia supported the University of Liberia in designing the country's first-ever Master of Artificial Intelligence programme.
The goal is to co-create an AI curriculum adapted to Liberia's needs and to build lasting institutional capacity for AI education at the University of Liberia.
The design process combined six online sessions with global AI experts and in-person workshops in Monrovia involving 20 University of Liberia faculty members. In parallel, the same UNDP-Intel partnership delivered AI training to Liberian government officials on regulation, service delivery and policy uses of AI.
A concrete early outcome was a new licensing agreement between Intel and the University of Liberia giving the institution direct, ongoing access to Intel's specialised AI training content. Reported figures for government officials trained diverge — UNDP's global summary cites nearly 100, while a Liberia-specific account of a related 'AI Sprint' workshop reports about 70 across Regulator, User and Enabler roles — and no single authoritative total is available.
As reported, the Master of AI programme was still at the curriculum co-design stage, with no student cohort yet enrolled or evaluated; the outcome to date is institutional capacity — a licensing agreement and a trained faculty group — rather than measured student learning.
