Description

Djibouti has limited AI-specific tertiary training capacity. The country's 2024 UNESCO AI-readiness assessment flagged weak higher-education and technical capacity as a constraint on national AI ambitions, and Djiboutian AI researchers only gained international recognition in 2025, when a University of Djibouti team was distinguished at the ACL 2025 conference for work on Somali-language processing.

In response, the Institut Universitaire de Technologie Industrielle (IUTI), the technology arm of the University of Djibouti, opened its first Master en Intelligence Artificielle et Modélisation des Données (M-IAMD) in September 2025, a two-year postgraduate degree beginning with a common first year followed by an AI/data-science specialisation track.

As of publication, public information covers the programme's launch, application process and academic structure. No cohort size, graduate outcomes or employment data have yet been published, since the first intake had not yet completed a full academic year at the time of writing.
