Context

On 1 June 2022 the Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis launched the National Gender Equality Policy and Action Plan 2022-2027, developed with UNESCO and UN Women Caribbean support, setting out ten priority areas spanning governance, economic empowerment, education, health and gender-based violence.

Results

The October 2022 CEDAW review recorded domestic-violence reports rising from 87 cases (2019) to 359 cases (2020), a 400% increase, alongside 38% female representation in Cabinet and 86% of registered farmers being male. By 2024 a cross-ministry Gender Focal Point Committee was established, and in 2025 a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Framework (MELF) was finalised; on 28 October 2025 the country joined six other Caribbean nations signing a Regional Agreement on Legislative and Policy Priorities on Domestic Violence.

Conclusions
