Context

On 23 April 2026, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines' National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC) held its annual International Girls in ICT Day workshop at the IT laboratory of Petit Bordel Secondary School, bringing together 30 female students from Petit Bordel and Troumaca Secondary Schools for a full day of sessions (9:30am-3:00pm) under the global 2026 theme 'AI for Development: Girls Shaping the Digital Future.'

Activities

NTRC staff — including its Consumer and Public Relations Manager and Spectrum Manager — led presentations on AI and ICT topics, and the NTRC's Universal Service Fund Administrator shared her own career journey in the sector to encourage participants toward STEM and technology careers. The event was supported by the Rotaract Club Kingstown, C.K. Greaves and Company, and 1st National Bank St. Lucia.

Conclusions

The workshop is a single-day awareness and mentorship event rather than a sustained instructional programme: it has no pre/post assessment of skills gained, and its reach (two schools, 30 students) is small relative to national school enrolment.
