Description

Oxford University Innovation (OUI) was established in 1987 as Oxford University Research and Development Ltd, renamed Isis Innovation in 1988 and given its current name in 2016. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Oxford that manages intellectual property across all research divisions.
Its 2024 impact report, covering 2023/24, states total income of £31.1m, of which £15.9m was returned to the University, £19.5m of seed funding raised, 93 new patents filed and 411 licences in total.
Wikipedia notes that OUI files roughly one patent application a week, runs the Oxford University Challenge Seed Fund (launched 1999) and has run a software startup incubator since 2010.
Evidence caveat: the performance figures come from OUI's own report and have not been independently audited in the sources reviewed; the model is also a conventional one rather than a novel design.
