Description

Austria's Parliament authorised the national telecoms and media regulator RTR to set up an AI Service Desk (KI-Servicestelle), announced by RTR on 1 February 2024, ahead of the EU AI Act. It gives the public low-threshold information on AI regulation, runs events and studies, supports media companies in responsible AI use and houses an AI Advisory Board (KI-Beirat) advising the Federal Government and the Desk itself.
Its first major output was a data baseline: a survey of over 700 Austrian companies with 50+ employees (Nov–Dec 2024) on AI in human-resource management, a high-risk area under the AI Act. About two thirds of respondents already use AI in HR, mainly for administrative routines, recruitment, knowledge management and job-ad drafting. The report, raw data and questionnaire were published openly and presented on 7 April 2025 with the Vienna Chamber of Labour.
Evidence caveats: no inquiry volumes, budget, staffing or user-outcome evaluation have been published that we could verify, so impact on compliance is unmeasured. It is an advisory and information service, not a sandbox with testing or enforcement powers.
