Study Melbourne — Victoria's International Student Support & Retention Platform

Study Melbourne is the Victorian Government's international-education office, based within the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions, running services and grants to attract international students to Victoria and support them while they study and after they graduate.

To help international students settle safely, build employability, and stay in Victoria after graduation, while growing the state's international-education sector.

Its Study Melbourne Inclusion Program, running since 2015, funds community- and university-led projects on student wellbeing, safety and employability; its Improving International Student Employment Outcomes initiative asks employers to sign a Commitment to Action to reduce recruitment bias against international graduates and report progress every 6-12 months.

The Inclusion Program has funded 178 projects reaching more than 238,000 students, with 14 more projects funded in 2026. Victoria's wider international-education sector generated AU$15.9 billion and supported around 64,000 jobs in 2024 from about 330,000 enrolments, and a 2025 AU$5 million Yes to International Students Fund backed 16 providers, including a new dual-degree pathway between RMIT Melbourne and a partner institution in India.

The sector-wide economic and enrolment figures describe Victoria's international-education sector as a whole rather than Study Melbourne's programmes in isolation, so the clearest programme-specific evidence remains the Inclusion Program's project and participant counts.
