The 2020 GEA revision obliges Swiss employers with ≥100 staff to audit pay via the free Logib tool. Since Logib launched (2006) the unexplained gender pay gap fell 3.5 pp to 7.8%; Logib holds an EPIC Good Practice label and a UN Public Service Award.
CH02Effective 1 July 2020, Article 13 of the revised Swiss Gender Equality Act (GEA) requires every employer with 100 or more employees, roughly 0.9% of Swiss firms but covering 46% of the workforce, to conduct a formal equal pay analysis and have it audited by an independent body. The Confederation provides the Logib tool free of charge, with Module 1 (50+ staff) applying a semi-logarithmic OLS regression and Module 2 (2–49 staff) using analytical job evaluation.
Employers must complete the analysis by 30 June 2021, the audit by 30 June 2022, and communicate results to all staff by 30 June 2023; the obligation repeats every four years if a gap persists, with the mandate running until 30 June 2032. Public procurement rules exclude contractors with unexplained gaps above 5% from federal contracts.
Since Logib was first available in 2006, Switzerland's unexplained gender pay gap narrowed by 3.5 percentage points to 7.8% (Swiss FSO, 2020). At company level, Mobiliar reduced its gap from 5–6% to under 2.5%, and Novartis identified CHF 3 million in underpayments for 900 female employees and corrected their salaries. Logib Module 1 received the EPIC Good Practice label (OECD/ILO/UN Women) and a UN Public Service Award.
The EU's 2023 Pay Transparency Directive adopted a comparable mandatory-analysis mechanism, demonstrating direct international replication of the Swiss model.
