Technoport

Technoport traces to 1998, when the Public Research Centre Henri Tudor launched a technology-focused business incubator in Luxembourg. In June 2012 that original Technoport merged with Ecostart I and II, business-support infrastructure the Ministry of the Economy and Foreign Trade had built up since 2004, to form the present-day Technoport, based in Esch-sur-Alzette.

What it does: Technoport runs a technology business incubator with equipped office space and industrial facilities across ICT, healthtech, spacetech and industrial-application sectors, plus an event space for hackathons and co-design activities, and broader ecosystem support combining business services, professional networks and infrastructure.

Results: Technoport hosts around 40 companies at any given time. Of the 73 companies that have successfully completed incubation and left, 18 (25%) were subsequently acquired by foreign companies — a concrete, verifiable exit-outcome metric rather than a self-reported activity count.

Why it is a good practice: over 25 years combining a public research centre's origins with a government economic-development programme, it has produced a clearly measurable share of internationally acquired graduate companies, evidence of successful technology transfer into commercially viable, exit-ready businesses.

Caveat: the 73-company and 18-acquisition figures come from Technoport's own published company lists rather than an independent audit, and no comparable data on jobs created or aggregate revenue across the full 25+ years was found; independent confirmation of Technoport's existence and role comes from the EU|BIC innovation network (EBN).
