A note reviewing gender equality legislation and policy developments in Cyprus across six thematic areas: economic independence, reconciliation of private/professional life, equal representation in decision-making, eradication of violence against women, elimination of gender stereotypes, and women's sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Conclusions

Despite legislative and institutional progress driven largely by harmonisation with the EU acquis communautaire, challenges remain: little has been done to actively promote the policies or raise citizen awareness, and employers, policy makers and decision-makers lack training to implement the measures effectively, risking that the policies will not actually enhance gender equality as intended.
