Context
The Society of the Blind and Deaf of Turkmenistan (BDST) runs training-and-production workshops in Ashgabat, Turkmenabat and Mary that had become outdated. Under 'Towards Decent Work for People with Disabilities in Turkmenistan,' UNDP and the Government of China's Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund jointly funded a $1.5 million modernisation (China $1.44m, UNDP $60,000) in 2022-2023.
Results
The project re-equipped three BDST branches with modern cardboard-production and printing machinery adapted for people with visual and hearing impairments, and trained BDST members to operate and maintain it.
