TransEmpregos — Brazil's Job-Matching Platform for Transgender Workers

TransEmpregos is a non-profit online platform, founded in São Paulo in 2013 by lawyer Márcia Rocha together with businesswoman Maitê Schneider, cartoonist Laerte Coutinho, psychoanalyst Letícia Lanz and activist João W. Nery, and launched publicly in August 2014. It lets transgender and travesti Brazilians register a CV for free and lets partner employers post vacancies and access free internal training on trans-inclusive hiring and workplace practices — addressing a labour market in which, according to the trans-rights association Antra, roughly 90% of trans people in Brazil are pushed into informal sex work because formal employers will not hire them.
The platform has grown from a single hire and 300 CVs in its first year to more than 24,000 registered jobseekers and over 1,000 partner companies by the early 2020s, according to reporting in Correio Braziliense and Projeto Draft; 797 people were placed into jobs in 2020 alone. Large employers including Carrefour, IBM, Pão de Açúcar, Chilli Beans and the call-centre firm Atento (which alone has hired over 1,000 trans staff) now recruit through the platform, and TransEmpregos has expanded from CV-matching into training courses and HR consulting for partner companies.
The evidence here is mainly self-reported growth statistics amplified by credible Brazilian and international press (Correio Braziliense, Projeto Draft, AFP) rather than an independent impact evaluation, so outcomes such as job retention or wage progression are not formally tracked. The scale of need also dwarfs the platform's reach: Brazil recorded 140 murders of trans and travesti people in 2021 alone — the highest total of any country for the 13th consecutive year — underlining that a job-matching website, however well-run, addresses only one part of a much larger structural exclusion.
