Context

In the last week of November 2025, UNDP Liberia — working with the UNDP Digital, AI and Innovation Hub and Intel Corporation under a March 2025 UNDP-Intel memorandum of understanding — ran an 'AI Sprint' training for approximately 70 technical officials from Liberian ministries and public institutions, one of the country's first structured efforts to build AI capacity inside government.

Activities

The training organised government's role into three tracks: Government as Regulator (building ethical AI regulatory frameworks), Government as User (practical AI applications for efficiency) and Government as Enabler (creating an ecosystem for AI education). An Intel engineer took part across all three tracks to ground the sessions in industry practice.

Results

The Sprint sits inside a wider push: UNDP is separately supporting the University of Liberia's first Master of Applied AI programme and aims to extend digital and AI skills training toward 50,000 young Liberians. No downstream measure of improved government decision-making or service delivery has yet been published — the programme's own materials describe training delivered, not outcomes achieved.
