Evidence snapshot for Windhoek
SchoolNet Namibia, a Windhoek non-profit founded in February 2000, connected schools across Namibia to the internet using open-source technology and refurbished computers, expanding from approximately 120 schools by 2004 to a peak of roughly 500 schools by 2006 out of Namibia's 1,500–1,600 total schools. The programme also trained unemployed youth as ICT technicians and operated its own ISP, though learning outcomes were never tracked. However, high staff turnover and volunteer reliance created sustainability challenges that proved critical: SchoolNet Namibia was voluntarily dissolved on 17 July 2009 after losing government support.
