Context

The AI EmpowerED initiative, run by UNESCO's Global Skills Academy with Microsoft Elevate, KPMG International and Tablet Academy, piloted a train-the-trainer model for digital and AI skills at AAMUSTED in Kumasi, Ghana's leading TVET institution. Selected instructors completed intensive bootcamps and Microsoft-accredited learning pathways, then cascaded training to colleagues and students.

Results

UNESCO reports that more than 30 master trainers and around 3,300 learners completed the pathway and earned Microsoft-accredited AI and digital-skills certifications during the 2025 pilot. In August 2026, Ghana's Education Trust Fund (GETFund) signed an MoU with UNESCO to fund a phase-two rollout across roughly 140 TVET institutions nationwide, with a stated ambition of training and certifying up to one million TVET educators and learners by 2027.

Conclusions

Ghana is one of six countries in UNESCO's Global Skills Academy programme, launched in 2025 to prepare TVET systems for an AI-influenced labour market; the one-million target is not yet evidenced by completed outcomes.
