Azerbaijan's Ministry of Science and Education operates the Digital School platform (reqemsal.edu.az), which first launched in test mode in Baku in February 2025 with separate portals for parents, students, teachers and school directors.
In April 2026 the Ministry announced it had built a custom Microsoft Copilot Studio agent and integrated it into the platform to help teachers produce lesson plans and classroom materials aligned with Azerbaijan's national curriculum.
The agent operates inside Microsoft 365 tools teachers already use — OneDrive, Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel and Forms — to generate lesson plans, worksheets, quizzes and assignments, summarise texts, draft presentations, and suggest instructional strategies, with teacher review required before materials reach the classroom.
The Ministry reports the Digital School platform has over 900,000 total users, including 44,552 teachers, 543,255 students and 360,709 parents, though these are platform-wide totals rather than Copilot-specific usage figures, and no data on active AI-agent use, time saved, or effect on lesson quality has been published.
The deployment illustrates a national-scale integration of a generative-AI teaching assistant into an existing government platform, but as of the announcement it rests entirely on self-reported reach figures with no independent verification of teacher usage or classroom impact.
