Azerbaijan's Digital School platform (reqemsal.edu.az) first launched in test mode in Baku on 7 February 2025, run by the State Agency for Preschool and General Education with parent, student, teacher and director portals, according to the Azerbaijani news agency APA. In an announcement dated 29 April 2026, the Ministry of Science and Education said it had integrated a custom Copilot agent, built with Microsoft Copilot Studio, directly into the platform for teachers.
The agent works inside Microsoft 365 tools teachers already use — OneDrive, Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel and Forms — to generate structured lesson plans and teaching materials, develop worksheets, quizzes and classroom assignments, summarise academic texts, draft presentations and lesson outlines, and suggest instructional strategies. It was configured with reference materials reflecting Azerbaijan's national curriculum framework. The Ministry states that materials remain teacher-reviewed before classroom use, and frames the deployment around data-protection standards and keeping educators "accountable and in control."
Per the Ministry's own figures, the Digital School platform now has over 900,000 total users, including 44,552 teachers, 543,255 students and 360,709 parents — evidence of substantial reach, though these are platform-wide totals rather than Copilot-feature-specific usage, and the Ministry does not report how many teachers actively use the AI agent, how much preparation time it saves, or any effect on lesson quality or student outcomes. No independent third-party evaluation of the Copilot agent was found; all figures and safeguard claims currently rest on the Ministry's own announcement.
