AI untuk Rakyat — Malaysia's National AI Literacy Digital-Badge Programme

On 16 January 2024, Malaysia's government, through MyDIGITAL Corporation (an agency under the Ministry of Digital, formerly hosting the Malaysia Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution) and technology partner Intel Corporation, launched "AI Untuk Rakyat" ("AI for the People"), a free, self-paced online programme to raise basic AI awareness nationwide, delivered through the Rakyat Digital portal.
Learners completed two initial modules, "AI Aware" and "AI Appreciate" (about four hours total), earning an automated digital badge on completion of each; content was offered in Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mandarin and Tamil, with accessibility features including high-contrast display, dyslexic-friendly fonts and screen-reader (TalkBack) compatibility. Demand was high enough that the platform was briefly taken offline in February 2024 for a cybersecurity review after registrations surged.
MyDIGITAL's official results announcement reported that one million Malaysians completed the programme within less than six months of launch — a rapid milestone for a national digital-skills campaign. By August 2026, government and independent press (The Star, Malay Mail) reported the programme had grown to six modules — including Generative AI, AI Security and Agentic AI for All — with completion required to unlock free AI tools for participants.
As with comparable national campaigns, the published evidence centres on completion counts and badges issued rather than independent measurement of skill retention or downstream use; the sources reviewed did not report a third-party evaluation of learning outcomes.
