Context

In 2021, Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) was selected as one of the winning cities of Bloomberg Philanthropies' Global Mayors Challenge — chosen from 630 competing cities worldwide — earning a $1 million grant and technical support to develop its 'Amman is Listening' proposal, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Objectives

The platform aimed to help the city respond faster during crises (health emergencies, natural disasters) and route everyday service feedback into planning, by combining accessibility information with an AI-assisted citizen feedback channel.

Activities

GAM and UNDP launched the trial version of the platform on 8 July 2024, combining district-level 'Accessibility Maps' showing local services and infrastructure with an AI-assisted channel for residents to submit ideas and feedback to municipal officials.

Results

As of this review, coverage of the platform is limited to launch and funding announcements (Jordan Times, SDG Local Action, Bloomberg Cities) rather than independent post-launch evaluation: no published, third-party figures yet exist on user numbers, feedback volume, response times or measured effects on service delivery.
