Context

The publishing sector in the UK, Greece, Italy and Spain was being reshaped by 'transmedia' digital distribution (ebooks, audiobooks, social and web-based channels), putting SME-dominated supply chains (production, design, distribution/sales, editorial, marketing) under pressure to update their skills.

Objectives

Identify current and future skill requirements across the publishing supply chain and develop a joint EQF/ECVET-aligned training programme covering five occupational profiles, prioritising unemployed, self-employed, low-skilled and disadvantaged applicants.

Activities

A 12-partner consortium across Italy, the UK, Greece, Spain and Belgium built and delivered training through a MOOC platform, a dedicated Web TV channel and a social network, with modules on operating systems, digital printing and packaging, social media marketing, ebooks/audiobooks and data protection.

Results

The programme reached 1,082 people by its 2019 close; a Programme Delivery Report documents implementation, but no quantified skills-gain or employment outcomes are described in the available sources.

Conditions for success

  • Cross-sector consortium bringing together publishers' associations, training providers and certification bodies
  • Alignment with EQF/ECVET frameworks for qualification portability across the four target countries
