Context

Ask Izzy, launched in January 2016 by Melbourne-based not-for-profit Infoxchange in partnership with Google, News Corp Australia and realestate.com.au, is a free, anonymous mobile website helping people experiencing or at risk of homelessness find housing, food, health, legal and family-violence services, usable without mobile credit on the Telstra and Vodafone networks.

Results

By its sixth anniversary in February 2022 the service had logged more than 10 million searches, with over 10,000 users a month; people fleeing family violence are among its largest user groups, and a 2017 NAB Foundation grant of A$500,000 funded co-design with women who had experienced family violence. An independent academic evaluation (ECSCW 2019) found real benefits alongside barriers: users were sometimes shown ineligible or unavailable services, eroding trust. Usage totals are Infoxchange's own analytics.
