Google, GoTo and Traveloka run Bangkit Academy with Indonesia's Ministry of Higher Education: a free, credit-bearing Machine Learning, Cloud Computing and Mobile Development micro-credential track that grew from 3,000 students in its 2021 pilot to 3,100 in 2022.
Bangkit Academy is a free, industry-run micro-credential programme for Indonesian university students, led by Google together with GoTo and Traveloka and endorsed by Indonesia's Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology under the Merdeka Belajar–Kampus Merdeka (Independent Campus) policy.
The programme gives students a government-recognised pathway into Machine Learning, Cloud Computing or Mobile Development, each aligned to a Google or TensorFlow industry certification exam, that can be converted into university credit.
Since launching in 2021, students choose one of three learning paths and complete roughly 900 study hours over 18–20 weeks; Universitas Brawijaya's 2023 cohort documentation shows the course converting into 20 university credit units through the Kampus Merdeka scheme, alongside career-fair opportunities and up to Rp140 million in incubation funding for the strongest capstone teams.
The 2021 pilot enrolled 3,000 students who completed nearly 15,000 courses and specialisations across the three tracks; the 2022 cohort grew to 3,100 students, and the 2023 batch again targeted around 3,000 digital-talent places, giving the programme a multi-year, institutionally embedded track record.
The two primary sources verified here document enrolment, completion-course counts and credit recognition, but do not report an independent, controlled evaluation of learning gains or post-programme employment outcomes, so the evidence should be read as descriptive rather than causal.
