Context

The Better Futures Programme is a Greater London Authority initiative supporting London's Net Zero by 2030 goal by helping "cleantech" SMEs innovate, bring new ideas to market, reduce their carbon footprints, and scale up while creating jobs. Originally launched in February 2017 with European Regional Development Fund support, it has since been funded via the London Green New Deal and, from July 2023, the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and is delivered with partners including Imperial College London, Sustainable Ventures and West London Business.

Results

Of the 100+ SMEs that have completed the Better Futures programme, 93% are still active. The programme is resourced with £2.2 million and currently supports a cohort of 14 SMEs. Interns placed with participating businesses through the programme have been hired long-term, and participating SMEs work with government departments to help inform green policies.
