Bristol Computer Reuse

Bristol Computer Reuse is a citywide project with the aim of making affordable desktop computers and laptops available to individuals and families on low incomes or facing other challenges. They want to make Bristol a truly inclusive and connected digital city where everyone who would like a computer at home can have one, regardless of age, income or background. They know that access to a home computer helps people stay in touch, connect to public services, improve employment opportunities and encourage further education.
They work with stocks of computers that are no longer required by the council, local businesses and organisations. They refurbish the machines and ensure they are ready to be used by new owners. The scheme is supported by Bristol City Council and through it, it is possible to apply for refurbished desktop computers from as little as £75.00 or laptops from £99.00.
Computers can be applied for by people meeting one or more of the following criteria:
• Low income.
• Over 65.
• Disabled.
• Has a child that receives free school meals.
• Has a child that needs access to a computer for educational purposes.
• In receipt of means tested benefits.
• Full-time carer.

Context: Computers and the internet are a part of everyday life. Access to a home computer helps people stay in touch, connect to public services, improve employment opportunities and encourage further education.
