Context

Brunei's Ministry of Education, through the Brunei Darussalam Leadership and Teacher Academy (BDLTA), ran a national AI In-Depth Literacy Certification programme for public-school teachers during 2025, alongside a September 2025 'GenAI Guidance for Education' ethics handbook. The programme sits within the government's 2023-2027 Digital Transformation Plan.

Objectives

The certification aimed to build AI literacy across Brunei's public-school teaching workforce and to create a cadre of Master Trainers able to cascade further training.

Activities

4,892 teachers took part in BDLTA's AI courses during 2025. Education Minister Hajah Romaizah Haji Md Salleh announced the results to Brunei's Legislative Council in August 2026.

Results

Of the 4,892 teachers who took part, 4,281 (about 87%) completed the AI In-Depth Literacy Certification, and six were appointed Certified Master Trainers who can now cascade further training.

Conclusions

Reporting to date is descriptive -- ministry-announced participation and certification counts -- rather than an independent evaluation of classroom practice change or student outcomes, and no public data yet shows how certified teachers are applying AI in lessons.
