MEP–CENECOOP National AI Training Platform — 90,000 Digitally-Endorsed Micro-Credential Scholarships for Costa Rican Educators

In April 2026, Costa Rica's Ministerio de Educación Pública (MEP), together with the Centro de Estudios y Capacitación Cooperativa (CENECOOP R.L.), opened 90,000 scholarships for a national artificial-intelligence-in-education training programme aimed at classroom teachers, school directors and other educational leaders across the public system.

The course runs fully virtually and asynchronously from 27 April to 31 December 2026, with enrolment staggered across three registration windows (April, May and June). The curriculum totals 32 hours across four modules — AI fundamentals, technological tools, ethical AI use, and educational innovation — supported by more than 225 learning resources. To pass each module, participants must score at least 8 out of 10 on a module assessment.

This is a design-stage, at-scale credentialing initiative rather than a completed and evaluated one: as of this writing the training window is still open and no independent source yet reports completion rates, module-assessment results, or classroom impact. Its evidentiary strength lies in the explicit, verifiable design of the credential (a defined competency bar, tri-party endorsement, dedicated ethics module) rather than in demonstrated outcomes, which should be revisited once the programme closes at the end of 2026.
