Caribbean Regional Communications Infrastructure Program (CARCIP) – Nicaragua

The Caribbean Regional Communications Infrastructure Program (CARCIP) — Nicaragua component was approved by the World Bank's board in August 2016 as a US$20.1 million IDA credit, implemented jointly by the state electricity transmission company Enatrel and the telecommunications regulator TELCOR. It targeted Nicaragua's Autonomous Regions of the North and South Caribbean Coast, one of the country's least connected and poorest areas, aiming to extend broadband to about 48 locations — schools, health centres, universities and small and medium enterprises — reaching close to 180,000 people through public-private partnerships, including indigenous and Afro-descendant populations.
