Context

Chisinau's Green City Action Plan (2020, EBRD Green Cities) prioritised climate-resilient blue-green infrastructure. In June 2023 the city, EBRD, EIB and the Green Climate Fund announced a EUR20M package to act against flooding along the River Bic.

Activities

The project combines 7.6km of river reprofiling, drainage rehabilitation and flap valves with roughly 90 rain gardens and 85 tree pits for stormwater infiltration.

Results

Stated goals are to protect about 2,100 residents from flood risk and improve water quality for roughly 100,000 people near the Bic; no completion date or monitoring results were available at review.
