Cluj Innovation Park

Cluj Innovation Park (CIP) is an 18-hectare science, technology and creative-industries park built by Cluj-Napoca's municipal government on former industrial land, with construction backed by a EUR 15 million public investment across roughly 73,000 square metres of built space. The park became operational in 2019, when its first tenant contracts were signed.

CIP houses two municipally-run business-support centres -- CREIC (the Regional Centre of Excellence for Creative Industries) and TEAM (Technology, Evolution, Entrepreneurship and Microenterprises) -- offering coworking space, production halls, a RENAR-accredited prototyping and design laboratory, a 630 sq m film studio, and industrial parcels, alongside more than 40 public events a year including the Techsylvania technology conference.

As of 2024 the park hosts around 60 resident companies across coworking, office, production and creative sectors, with occupancy above 90% and cumulative resident investment of roughly EUR 30 million. Cluj Innovation Park SA, the municipally-owned operator, has posted rising revenue every year since 2019, closing 2024 with turnover of 4.4 million lei (about EUR 0.9 million) and a net profit of 341,651 lei.

The park has drawn EU co-funding (Horizon Europe, Erasmus+, Innovation Norway) for pilot projects spanning industrial symbiosis (Catalyst), green mobility (AI4Green Bus) and creative-industries skills (EPISTEAM), and added an on-site photovoltaic and wind installation in 2023. As a municipally-led science park rather than a university-anchored one, its technology-transfer role is broader -- economic diversification and creative-industries capacity-building -- than the deep research-to-industry pipelines of longer-established university tech parks.
