What works in Romania

Romania has implemented multiple digital-inclusion and skills programmes targeting different populations. The Digital Skills Academy partnership reached over 1,110 children across 47 schools in its fifth edition, including 250+ Roma and refugee students across 8 schools, while Digitaliada equipped 40 rural schools across 26 counties with digital labs and trained 133 teachers, reaching approximately 4,500 pupils with 94% of parents reporting improved subject understanding. Beyond education, PREVENT demonstrates Romania's use of AI to detect conflicts of interest in public procurement, screening over 100,000 procedures worth RON 72 billion and preventing 55 contracts worth EUR 108 million from being awarded under conflicted conditions, with a 52% fall in undisclosed conflicts within 2.5 years. Digital-literacy training for seniors and intergenerational programmes also operate in Romania, though these show qualitative rather than quantified outcomes.
